Marcelo Kohn (1958) Chilean photographer, self-taught, with more than 40 years of work experience.
In the beginning he served as Mario Vivado's assistant for a year in which he learned from him about the profession of photographer.
The following year, together with Mario Vivado, Álvaro Mardones, Fernando Balmaceda and Pablo Rosenblatt they formed Centro Visual, a collective space with common equipment and a common work platform for commercial and artistic projects in the field of photography.
Four years later he continues alone with Mario Vivado at Centro Visual.
They develop a search around the manipulation of the image in its chemical processes, a deep study on the lighting of photographic scenes and the use of special effects techniques in the laboratory, set designs and tricks, being the most important study in effects work. specialties in photography.
Eight years later he formed his independent studio where he continued his personal search for the impeccability of the image and its expressiveness; Shortly after, he began to investigate the digitization of the image and its digital manipulation based on his experience with the analog image.
Su trabajo desarrolla en lo formal diferentes temáticas como paisajes naturales, paisajes urbanos, desnudos, naturaleza muerta, composiciones conceptuales, estados anímicos y una búsqueda en torno a diferentes cualidades de la luz y su incidencia en objetos o personas con el fin de invitar al espectador a buscar en si sus estados anímicos o emociones. Para estos efectos busca, a través de la composición y una cuidada iluminación de objetos o seres vivos, alcanzar imágenes impecables en lo formal y expresivas de sus procesos interiores en la búsqueda de generar un estado de profunda introspección, y que, aun tratándose de imágenes inquietantes, estas entreguen equilibrio y ecuanimidad. Ha participado en exposiciones colectivas, publicaciones nacionales e internacionales, miembro fundador de FOTOP, director de salón latinoamericano de fotografía publicitaria, Consejero en Creaimagen, ha colaborado con artistas como Santiago Sierra y ha producido un amplio espectro de temáticas en torno a la fotografía. Además, ha sido profesor de fotografía en Universidad Diego Portales y Universidad Arcos.
He is currently dedicated to the production and exhibition of his authorial work from his studio located in the La Reina sector, Santiago de Chile.
