Valparaíso in Intimacy

After a prolonged wandering through the hills and stairways of Valparaíso, I connected with a particular way of seeing. Relationships began to emerge, along with hidden corners and more open spaces.

Time passed before I was able to link what I was seeing in Valparaíso’s spaces to the relationship of its inhabitants with themselves, with others, and with their surroundings.

A movement of attention toward myself then emerged—toward my interior, toward intimacy.

I feel this is the result of the force of the faded, washed-out color present in the images.

It is the powerful call that this city, Valparaíso, exerts on me. It draws me away from immediacy and superficiality.

Cultivating intimacy unfolds in a different time.

The contemplation of these photographs is an invitation to enter an inner world where intimacy becomes possible.
